Hi everyone, and welcome to The Wiser Financial Advisor at Keystone Financial Services—where we get real, honest, and clear about the financial world and your money. Let the financial fun begin!

Jeremy: Welcome to another Wiser Financial Advisor Podcast Takeover. I’m Certified Financial Planner™ Jeremy Busch, and with me today is Jen Walter. So Jen, what’s our topic today?

Jen: Today we’re focusing on you, Jeremy—so listeners can get to know you better.

Jeremy: Fair enough. That might be a rocky road, but let’s go down it.

Jen: This will be fun. Most people listening know you’ve been with Keystone for a while, but let’s rewind. How did you get into this business?

Jeremy: I love what I do and I’m grateful I found this company, but becoming a financial planner wasn’t a straight path. Back in college at Fort Lewis, I realized I needed to find a “real job” as graduation approached. The first offers I got were in sales. One of those took me to Chicagoland for a business-to-business sales job. It was brutal—long days, suits in the summer heat, and constant rejection. I only lasted a few months, but I did gain valuable lessons.

From there I moved into admissions at Keller Graduate School of Management. It was better than pounding the pavement, and I started working on my MBA with a focus on accounting and finance. Around that time, my wife and I realized we didn’t want to raise a child in Chicago, so we came back to Colorado.

Jen: Did you know then what career path you wanted?

Jeremy: Not really. I bounced around. I worked as a grant accountant for Poudre School District, later moved to Greeley for another accounting role, and even did part-time home inspections on the side. I spent more than a decade in accounting before budget cuts eliminated my position. Suddenly I was at a crossroads.

That’s when you, Jen, came into the picture. You suggested I look into financial advising, and I loved the idea. I’d always enjoyed my investments classes in college, but never thought I’d circle back to it. I started with Edward Jones, learned a lot, and eventually made my way to Keystone. From the first interview here, I knew it was a great fit—and nine years later, it still feels like home.

Jen: That’s awesome. What do you think sets Keystone apart?

Jeremy: The culture, hands down. From day one it’s been about creating a family atmosphere—both for our team and our clients. We want everyone to feel like they’re part of something bigger, and that we treat them the way we’d treat our own family. It’s incredibly rewarding to see clients realize their goals, sometimes even bringing them to tears of joy when they discover they can retire. Those moments make the work so meaningful.

Jen: I love that. You’re also a Certified Financial Planner™ professional. Can you share what that means?

Jeremy: Becoming a CFP® requires at least two years of study, two years of experience, and passing an intensive eight-hour exam. It covers everything—investments, taxation, estate planning, you name it. It was a huge commitment, but it gives me the knowledge and confidence to help clients with virtually any financial question. And if I don’t know the answer right away, I know how to find it. It’s been a fantastic career move and I’ve now been a CFP® for almost five years.

Jen: That’s impressive. Well, I think our listeners definitely know you better now. And if you haven’t had a chance to meet Jeremy yet, I encourage you to reach out—he’s not only knowledgeable but also a lot of fun to work with.

Jeremy: Thanks, Jen. I’ve enjoyed this conversation too.
